HUMAN RELATIONS DAY

Human Relations Day will be celebrated on January 16, the Sunday before the national birthday observance of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The special offering on this day is divided three ways:

the work of Church Based Community Developers

a net-work of social-justice organizations related to United

          Methodist Voluntary Services

          Christ-centered Youth Rehabilitation Services

As a community developer for Faith Church in Los Angeles, Patricia King coordinates ministries that assist homeless people affected by HIV/AIDS, and offer courses in parenting, anger management, basic life skills and other subjects.

This special day “calls the church to recognize the right of all of God’s children in realizing their potential as human beings in relationship with each other.” (Book of Discipline 2004)

Through our financial support, we have a part in reaching out to others. Please place your donation in the special envelope found in the pew rack and put in offering plate or mail it to our church office. Make out the check to United Methodist Church of Park Ridge and in the memo section, “Human Relations Day”.  Thank you.

THANKSGIVING DONATIONS

The Missions committee wishes to thank members of the congregation for their generous Thanksgiving donations of food and money for persons in need. The canned and dried food and paper products have been taken to the Pascack Food Center; the money ($180.00) has gone to CUMAC Food Center, in Paterson, to purchase food in bulk.

Since the need now is even greater than it was before, you are reminded that a basket with the sign “Food for the Needy” is located in the lower hall near the Pastor’s office for your contributions of non-perishable items.

The Mission Committee wishes to express its appreciation to Shon Maurer, our representative, for her work with the Pascack Food Center. Shon’s innovative ideas and “hands-on-involvement” will be greatly missed.
